The dragonfly-themed iron kettles have been made for three generations, starting with the tea kettle made by the fifth generation Otomi.
This is the seventh generation dragonfly.
Dragonflies are known to be lucky charms that were beloved by samurai during the Sengoku period.
Not only is it a Japanese pattern, but it is also a pattern that Emile Gallé also liked across the sea.
It is a motif that is highly regarded overseas as a part of Eastern aesthetics, even today.

Otomi's Kamayaki Iron Kettle
Although it is a teapot, it can also be used as an iron kettle to boil water.
It is made using the traditional technique of kiln firing.
Proof of this is that the inside is grey in colour, without being enamel glaze.

*Precautions when using a teapot
When using it as a teapot, just as when boiling water, be careful not to leave any water inside.
The color of the tea will darken due to a reaction between the tannins in the tea and the iron, but please rest assured that this is not harmful.
We have received feedback that the reaction between the iron and tea components mellows out bitter and other unpleasant flavors, making the tea smoother and more palatable.
