▼What is a Swallow Pot?
This iron kettle was designed in the 1980s.
In addition to boiling water, it also comes with a tea strainer so it can be used as a teapot.
The interior is made using the kiln-firing method, which is essential for finishing iron kettles, making it ideal not only for boiling water but also for supplementing iron.
Thanks to you, this product has been awarded the Good Design Award 2021.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your support.
Wanting to change the image of Nambu ironware, and wanting many people to experience the potential of iron kettles and try them out, Akira Kikuchi, the second son of the sixth generation, designed this iron kettle in the late Showa period.
When the kettle was first developed, Akira's wife saw it and commented that it looked like a swallow, so the kettle was named Swallow Pot.
At the time this iron kettle was released, the traditional style of Nambu ironware was still mainstream.
However, it was not well received by customers and was discontinued.
More than 30 years have passed since then, and lifestyles have changed, so in 2020, I introduced the Swallow Pot on Twitter, thinking that it would be appreciated now, when it would be appreciated more than ever before. It received an overwhelming response as a timeless masterpiece, which led to it being reproduced.
<Picking the Trees>
After many years, it has been reproduced and not only reproduces the original, but has also been upgraded.
The finishing touch is a wiped lacquer finish applied by Marusanji Lacquerware Studio, which produces Hidehira-nuri lacquerware, one of Iwate Prefecture's most representative traditional crafts.
Normally, the handle of an iron kettle is one piece and made of iron, so it gets hot, but by using a wooden handle, it doesn't get hot when you touch it. Also, lacquer has excellent waterproofing properties.
*Please note that the knob may crack if the pot is left empty or due to aging. If it does crack, it can be replaced.
